Notice of Intent to Fill the Vacancy in the Office of Buena Vista County Supervisor-District 5 by Appointment
Pursuant to Iowa Code, the County Committee composed of the Auditor, Treasurer, and Recorder intend to make an appointment to fill the vacancy in the office of Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors, for District 5 at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023, in the Board of Supervisors Room at the Buena Vista County Courthouse in Storm Lake, Iowa. The person appointed will conduct the duties of that position until the seat appears on the General Election ballot in November 2024 or earlier if a Special Election is ordered. Qualified applicants must meet the residency requirement of Iowa Law. Applicants must also reside within the Supervisor-District 5 boundary, which can be viewed on the County website https://buenavistacounty.iowa.gov/ or at the Buena Vista County Auditor’s Office. Duties of the County Supervisor are listed in §331.201-§331.216.
Persons interested in the appointment must submit a letter of interest and an application no later than May 31, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. Requirements must be sent to the Buena Vista County Auditor’s Office, 215 E. 5th Street, PO Box 220, Storm Lake, Iowa, 50588. They can be mailed, hand-delivered or put in the drop box located at the Courthouse east entrance. Notice is further given that the electors of Buena Vista County have the right to file a petition in accordance with Code of Iowa 69.14A requesting a Special Election. Said petition shall be filed with the County Auditor within 14 days after the vacancy is filled by appointment. The petition shall meet the requirements of Code of Iowa 331.306, which, in part, states the petition must be signed by a number equal or greater than at least 10 percent of the votes cast in the County for the Office of Governor at the preceding General Election, which equals to 515 signatures.
