MOTORCYCLE LICENSE TESTING RETURNS TO BV County
It has been a number of years since motorcycle license testing has been offered in the community. By popular demand, the Buena Vista County Treasurer’s office and Iowa DOT are returning the service, with the City of Storm Lake providing space in its downtown parking lot C on Erie Street.
Testing course lines have been painted in the lot and approved by the DOT. The area will be closed to parking on Thursdays from 8 a.m.-noon when needed for testing. The lot will remain closed for Farmers’ Market use from 4-6 on Thursdays.
Testing will be available each Thursday, by appointment, starting July 24. Those who are interested in obtaining a motorcycle license or endorsement may contact the county driver’s license department at 712-749-2571 to make an appointment for testing. Riders will check in at the courthouse, move to the lot for a course walk through, and then ride the course under the supervision of the county’s testing official. Once they’ve passed the test, they will be able to receive their license/endorsement at the courthouse.
Testing will be offered April-September, and can be conducted only when weather conditions are appropriate and pavement is dry.
